Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The South Kalimantan Provincial Government has granted funds of about Rp34 billion for preparation of local athletes to compete in the 19th National Games (PON) in Bandung, West Java.
According to Vice Chairman of the South Kalimantan branch of National Sports Committee (KONI) Mohammad Welny, KONI had received the grants and start using it to training camp preparation of athletes who will be dispatched to the 19th PON held on September 17 to 21, 2016.
"We believe the available funds will be sufficient until the implementation of the PON in West Java later, of course with maximum preparation of the athletes from now," he said in Banjarmasin on Saturday.
Many things will do to prepare maturity of the athletes, of which try-outs abroad, where athletes are sent primarily who got gold medal in the pre-PON.
"Funding for these athletes try-out from KONI and certainly also from the grants budget," he said.
Welny states, KONI determined in 2016 PON more achievement can be achieved by athletes to pay for the failure of achievement in 18th PON in Riau in 2012, when they only brought home five gold medals from the target of 25 medals.
"If in West Java PON we only target 18 gold medals. This can realistically be achieved if seeing the achievements of athletes at pre-PON ago. Because, at the pre-PON 121 athletes could earned medals in various sports, including wrestling, diving and shooting, "he said.
According to him, there are a total of 18 sport branches that are predicted to get a gold medal in the PON, namely wrestling 6 golds, shooting 4 golds, 2 gold for equestrian, diving 2 golds, 2 gold in boxing, and pencak silat 2 golds.
Furthermore, said Welny, sepak takraw, billiards, indoor soccer, basketball, diving, water skiing, swimming, gantolle, bodybuilding, wushu, dance, and rock climbing that each for one gold.
