Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Commander of the 101 Antasari Military Resort (Danrem) Colonel Cav Yanuar Adil said experts are needed to address fires in peatlands, to be more effectively and efficiently.


"Peatland has a different structure than other land, so knowledge or expertise is necessary to put out the fire when the land is on fire," said the commander in Banjarmasin Tuesday,

According to him, there were several factors cause fires in South Kalimantan, namely natural factors, including peatland vegetation with a character of flammable, not just on surface but down in the soil.

The hot weather due to droughts and rising temperatures and high winds and tornado, make a fire was very easy to grow.

The second factor is human, he pointed out, customs to burn gardens and fields to increase soil fertility and this is a practical and economical way to clear land.

Then, he added, the company and individual factors deliberately burn forests and land for plantations, business or housing and a lack of public awareness in preventing forest and land fires and the lack of love for the environment.

Lastly, regulatory factors, namely the law No. 32 of 2009 on environmental management, which allows a maximum of 2 hectares of land burning.

Earlier on Monday (7/3), South Kalimantan provincial government counducted an integrated coordination meetings in preparation of forest fire prevention. The meeting led by Governor Sahbirin Noor with source persons Danrem 101 Antasari, South Kalimantan Police chief and the head of BPBD (Regional Disaster Management).

Based on the data, in 2015 to 9 November the number of hotspots as many as 3,264 hotspots, with a total area burned 211,995 hectares or 5.7 percent of the area of ​​South Kalimantan.
