Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - General Manager of state owned electricity company PT PLN Region South and Central Kalimantan Purnomo said the two provinces would be free of power outages began in August 2016.
"We can be sure South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan be free of rotating electrical outages began 2016 as a backup power possessed large enough," he said in Banjarbaru Friday.
Currently the Barito Electrical Systems which serves South and Central Kalimantan has 480 Mega Watt (MW) electrical power with a peak load of 500 MW.
He said electric power is still very vulnerable to outages due to the little reserves from four units of Asam-Asam steam-fueled power plant, diesel power, hydropower and Excess Power.
"Backup power is small, so if we need plant maintenance outages will happen due to lack of power," he said.
However, he said, if the new power plant PLTU Pulang Pisauunits 1 and 2 completed, the electrical power could have additional 130 MW.
In addition to the power plant Pulang Pisau with capacity 65 MW each, there are additional electrical power from PLTMG Bangkanai located in Central Kalimantan, with power capable of 155 MW.
"If the Pulang Pisau plant operates plus Excess Power with a total power of 275 MW plus (the existing) 480 MW of electrical power, so we have the total power of 755 MW," he said.
If electric power is fully operational 755 MW reduced with peak load which is expected to reach 550 MW, PLN still owned 205 MW of electrical power reserves.
