Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Acting Governor of South Kalimantan Tarmizi Abdul Karim said the emergency alert status of land and forest fires in the province would extends.
The status of land and forest fire emergency extends until December 15, he told reporters after the Heroes Day commemoration in Banjarmasin on Tuesday.
Tarmizi, who is also Inspector General of the Interior Ministry, said in a statement the extension of the emergency alert status with consideration of data from Meteorological and Geophysics Staklim (BMKG) Banjarbaru.
"According to BMKG, the dry season estimates to continue until the end of November and the intensity of rain is still low," said the former Regent of North Aceh.
"Even based on estimates of BMKG, the possibility is mid or until the end of December 2015 the rainfall will be normal," said Tarmizi.
Meanwhile, the commander of the 101 Antasari Military Command (Korem) Colonel Muhammad Abduh Ras revealed, until now there are still eight hotspots spread in South Kalimantan.
Therefore, efforts to extinguishing of fires continued by Korem and South Kalimantan Regional Police, he said.
