Jakarta (ANTARA) - Three businesses would be in high demand in future namely cyber security, metaverse, and payment systems and financial technology/fintech, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno said.
"Thank God, there were no cyber-attacks in our session, but the session with Minister of Communications and Informatics Johnny G. Plate was repeatedly hit by cyber-attacks. There is something that interferes with our event," he said at the launch of the Muhammadiyah Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Incubator (MCEBI) and the hybrid Business Clinic with Sandiaga on Tuesday.
The second sector that would be in demand in the future is metaverse, which has the potential to attract US$720 billion in investment in the next three years, he added.
The metaverse is considered an embodiment of technology that moves quickly, Uno remarked adding, that in the digital sector, business actors can make profits without taking big risks.
One way to monetize digital goods is non-fungible tokens (NFT), which have become popular in Indonesia ever since Indonesian citizen Sultan Gustaf Al-Ghozali sold pictures of himself via an NFT and managed to earn Rp13 billion, he noted.
"From the Rp13 billion that he earned, he was only able to monetize Rp30 million of it. However, it is a good start. In my opinion, the metaverse is one area that is closer to entertainment," Uno remarked.
Reflecting on the past, many technology companies such as Friendster and MySpace have not been able to compete with Facebook or Google, the minister noted.
"If we invest in Friendster or MySpace, we will be out of the game. We will not be profitable. But if we choose Facebook, we can gain revenue," the former Jakarta Deputy Governor said.
Uno said that payment systems and financial technologies will also be needed in upcoming years.
Therefore, the payment system and financial technology sectors must be expanded and utilized to solve problems regarding capital access for business actors, he added.
