Barabai, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Pajukungan Neighbourhood here in Central Hulu Sungai, which became part of the way across the northern Trans Kalimantan, since December 30, 2014, still in flood that impede the flow of vehicles.


AntaranewsKalsel journalist who traveled to the Central Hulu Sungai (HST) on Thursday reported, flooding in Pajukungan and surrounding areas resulted in traffic disrupted, such as public minibus forced to pass through alternative roads into villages.

When forcing through Pajukungan, minivan like Colt L300, Kijang and the like are certainly trapped in water inundation, except truck and auto bus, or motorcycle by using the service carts to pass through the flooded area.

According to local residents, the flooding "Apam town" Barabai, the capital of HST (165 kilometers north of Banjarmasin) due to overflowing water of Batang Alai or Sakutang, and two days before the flood came out of Kali Benawa or Barabai River.

The upstream of Alai River and Benawa in Meratus mountains got heavy rain successively within a few days causing flooding.

Floods also soak the rice fields, including existing planting (planting rice seedlings), as in the village of Simpang Mahar and Kumpang Maligung in Subdistrict, Batu Benawa.

"Plants` banih` (rice tillers) has been submerged in five days. If it is still submerged in two days the plant will be damaged, " said a local farmer.

Earth Murakata which is consisting of 11 subdistricts is an agricultural center for the upstream region of "Banua Anam" South Kalimantan, and the granary of the province.
