Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Kotabaru District judged worthy to be the center of maritime development in Indonesia.


"Kotabaru which is right in the middle of Indonesia is apt to be the center of maritime development. Moreover it has an area nearly a quarter of South Kalimantan and has waters into the sea lane Indonesia (ALKI) II," said Regent Kotabaru H Irhami Ridjani here Monday.

Kotabaru is an area of 9442.46 square kilometers consists of 134 large and small islands, with a population of 290,142 inhabitants, (Census 2010).

Kotabaru waters are at ALKI II which is the strategic international shipping lanes, and a stopover for ships from Western Australia to the Philippines, Taiwan and China and vice versa.

Support the development of maritime center, Kotabaru has had a number of national and international ports, such as port PT Arutmin and harbor Mekarputih (In Indonesian Ministry of Transportation's Ports Master Plan it planned as a major Ports).
