Banjarbaru , South Kalimantan ( Antaranews ) - Banjarbaru ready to become a center of cattle farming, especially
cattle to meet their own needs as well as being a supplier of cattle to other areas.
"The cattle breeding centers program has gone the way in 2013 and is targeted to be realized in mid-2014," said Head of the Banjarbaru Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Agency Muhammad Rustam on Wednesday.
He said the region that will be the center of beef cattle is Liang Anggang. Early stage is ready by preparing Artificial
Insemination (AI) post to support cattle breeding programs. IB post also features with support tools from South
Kalimantan Livestock Agency (Disnak) assistance is a specialized ultrasound (USG) to determine pregnancy of
bovine animals whose meat is consumed.
"Other equipment also received from Disnak Kalsel is uterine detector to determine the time period of estrus or mating cows, so the breeding process will be smoothly," he said.
According to him, the aim of Banjarbaru becoming a center of cattle farms is to meet the consumption needs of the
community as well as a readiness to succeed meat self-sufficiency program in South Kalimantan.
Banjarbaru known as a cow transit point from various regions, such as East Java, West and East Nusa Tenggara with a population of 3,000. It strategic position as a transit point make it advantageous because it can supply beef to
other provinces, such as East Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan.
"As a transit point as well as cattle feedlot, the number can be reduced or increased in a short time because it can
be directly sold to meet the needs," he said.
