Flood Surrounded Banjarbaru

Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - Flood has been surrounding almost all part of Banjarbaru after a torrential rain hit the city since dawn on Thursday.

It was the worst that happen in the city now become the center of South Kalimantan Provincial Government. Waters not only inundated hundreds of houses but paralysed traffics.

Antaranews observed, hundreds of houses along Kemuning River bank were inundated as high as 50 to 100 centimeters. Half buildings of some houses were submerged. Flood interfered community activities.

Swift water river, that divides the town center of Banjarbaru reportedly also carrying casualties but still  have not been able ascertained the truth and still in the checking.

"I got the information through BBM broadcast two people drifting in the river Kemuning, but the report can not ascertain yet," said Head Banjarbaru Social Agency, M Hilman.

The worst flooding occurred in the subdistrict Cempaka. It was soaking hundreds of homes, so some residents chose to flee to high places.

Meanwhile, the flood crippled mainstreet traffic flow on Jalan Ahmad Yani km 29 near the headquarters of Brimob (Police Mobile Brigade). Roads filled with puddles of water as high as one meter so that traffic was routed.

"The traffic flow was diverted two hours since 07:00, but now traffic is normal because the median road has been uprooted so that the water flows smoothly," said Head of Banjarbaru Ops Police AKP Yacob.

Until 12:00 pm, the rain was still pouring Banjarbaru with bulk water level has decreased but many people home still submerged in water.
