Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Head of Banjarmasin Health Agency Machli Riyadi stated the city is now on alert as dengue fever cases (DBD) continue to increase.

"Dengue cases are increasing. There are four addition cases, so Banjarmasin must be vigilant," he affirmed in Banjarmasin City Hall, Monday (March 9, 2020).

According to him, the total number from January 2020 to date as many as 12 cases. "Fortunately there in no fatalities, because all were quickly handled," he said.

If there is any, he said, an Extraordinary Occurrence (KLB) will be determined.

"I hope there will be no fatalities, DBD case this year compared to last year in the same month is much decreased," he explained.

Machli Riyadi said, awareness of the spread of dengue must be increased to suppress the case, and the most important in the community role.

"Because the dengue mosquito can go up to 200 meters away from the point of the victim who was bitten first," he warned.

Therefore, he insisted, the eradication of dengue mosquito nests must be fast. If there is a case immediately report for fogging.

The community, he said, must continue to clean up the environment where the potential of Aedes aegypti mosquito can breed eradicated.

"If this concern is not raised, a dengue outbreak can occur, so this is our shared responsibility, it is not possible for only health workers to be charged," he pointed out.

Meanwhile, Governor Ridwan Kamil said, dengue fever in West Java Province has claimed 15 lives from January to March. "Sometimes this kind of news is less reported (than the coronavirus), although the fatality rate is higher," Kamil noted, Tuesday. 

Previously the Sikka District Health Office, East Nusa Tenggara, reported on Sunday that 13 people had died of dengue fever since the beginning of this year.
