Indonesia Stop Sending Migrant Workers

Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - The Indonesian government through the Ministry of Manpower and

Transmigration targeting to reduce the export of Indonesian labor (TKI) abroad up to zero starting in 2017.

"We have prepared a road map through the action plan reduction programs that support sending workers to zero,"

said Minister of Manpower and Transmigration Muhaimin Iskandar in Banjarbaru on Friday.

He said the policy of reducing the number of foreign workers to apply for the informal sector workers, while formal sector have been made to meet labor demand.

Informal labor demand can still be met if recipient countries meet the minimum requirements specified, so TKI can be quiet, safe and comfortable while working out the country.

"Conditions that must be met in whom there is no guarantee appropriate protection and appreciation of formal employment, salary put into a bank account and there is social security," he said.

Countries that are ready to meet the requirements of informal migrants are Hong Kong and Taiwan. Malaysia is still considered, while Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries are not ready.

"Hence a moratorium to stop sending migrant workers to the Middle East but there are still many citizens who

left through Umrah lane but ended up staying and work there," he said.

He emphasized, reducing the number of sending workers do in an effort to prevent citizens not to be treated humane for work and earn a living outside the country.

Manpower has established cooperation with the Red Cross Indonesia in the areas of service and protection of migrant workers, so they do not lose their rights as human beings entitled to be protected.
