Banjarbaru, (South Kalimantan, Antaranews) - A total of 4,160 students from elementary to high school in Banjarbaru will receive the scholarship for the poor program (BSM).

Head of Banjarbaru Education Agency Ahmadi Arsyad said here on Tuesday the number of students receiving BSM scholarship is a quota from the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud).

He said the number of BSM recipients for SD (elementary school) is 2,625 students or 12 percent of the total 22,308 SD students, 820 students of the total 7,237 SMP (junior high school) students or 11 percent. While high school (SMA) has 715 recipients or 8.5 percent of the 8,369 students.

"BSM's quota for Banjarbaru is less compared to other municipalities  and cities in South Kalimantan, and we do not know why the quota is less because the determination is Kemendikbud policy," he said.

He said he immediately wrote to schools designated as recipients and asked them to collect student data then it will be handed over from the agency to Kemendikbud.

"Data collection also aims to ensure that students receiving aid are actually poor students so that the programs right on target to help the poor students complete their education," he said.
