Marabahan, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Barito Kuala (Batola) farmers in Waringin Kencana Village enjoyed the first shallot harvest. They, who belong to the Taruna Tani Pemuda Jaya Farmers Group, have succeeded in developing the variety shallot of Bauji on 3 hectare land.
It actually was only a trial, but the result was quite encouraging. With a time of 60 days the average yield reaches 20 tons dry per hectare.
Regent Hj Noormiliyani AS, regional leaders coordination forum (Forkopimda), provincial and the district related agencies, sub-district head and Forkopimcam came to witness the first harvest and thanksgiving on Tuesday (9/7).
"If we look at the results, the yield is around 50 tons per hectare wet or around 20 tons per hectare dry. This yield exceeds the average productivity of South Kalimantan Province, which is 12 tons," said the Head of the Batola Office of Agriculture for Food Crops and Horticulture (Distan TPH) Murniarti.
Regent Hj Noormiliyani US welcomed the success of the Waringin Kencana farmers, especially Taruna Tani Pemuda Jaya farmers group in cultivating shallots.
The regent hopes this success will continue to be maintained and improved, even followed by the development of other types of plants that can be applied thus in the future Batola will truly be able to become the center of South Kalimantan horticulture according to the vision and mission she put in place: Building Villages, Arranging City.
