Deputy Governor Bank Indonesia (BI) Halim Alamsyah said that the program of redomination is not as simple as many reported. It need seven to ten years of preparation.

“We are just preparing the legislation and it is expected to be completed this year,” he stated in Banjarmasin, after a job handover of head of BI Office Region II,  Friday.

If there is a legal basis, a few step related to preparation have to be done. Then, a socialiazion that the government can not do it necessarily. There should be an adjustment that need a long time.

 â€œSo it is not that simple as many reported. We need a long time to prepare various tools to realize it,” he said.

When redenomination program be realized, BI would eliminate zero digits from currency’s nominal value, for example Rp1,000 become Rp1, but the purchasing value would remain the same.
