Until now most of the village-owned enterprises (BUMDes) were only established but gained no profit in their business, due to the lack of understanding of BUMDes.

Based on data from the Balangan Community and Village Empowerment Agency (DPMD), out of 154 villages, 147 villages have owned BUMDes, but only 60 are active.

The Head of Village Finance and Assets at the DPMD Andi Firmansyah said that out of 60 active BUMDes, only 22 BUMDes had shown results or benefited.

"Indeed, of the many BUMDes only 60 are active, and 22 of them have succeeded in generating profit. Recorded in the 2018 period, the range of profits or profit sharing of the 22 BUMDes varied from Rp500 thousand to Rp23 million," he said.

The business sectors of BUMDes developed by the community, including agriculture and plantations, rice mills, clean water supply, fisheries, and other types of businesses.
