Hundreds of people from various elements ranging from students, environmental activists to bureaucrats gathered in the parking lot of Warukin Airport, Tabalong District.


They were involved in a tree planting action initiated by the local Environmental Agency in commemoration of the Earth Day in South Kalimantan.

"We have planted 285 tree seedlings involving about 600 people, including at the peak of the South Kalimantan Province Earth Day event," explained Head of the Tabalong Environmental Agency Rowi Rawatianice in Tanjung, Friday.

In addition to tree planting, the agency distributed 500 shopping bags in lieu of plastic bags to a number of Tabalong regency government officials, representatives of companies, SOEs and other community elements.

Earth Day Commemoration with the theme of Interacting with Nature was also attended by the Expert Staff for Community and Human Resources of South Kalimantan Provincial Government Fathurrahman, Regent Tabalong Anang Syakhfiani, representatives of regents and mayors throughout South Kalimantan and other related parties.

Regent Tabalong said the clean and comfortable green movement had been encouraged for a long time in this 'Bumi Saraba Kawa' (nickname of the district).

Including various waste management efforts by targeting waste reduction through regulation of plastic waste restrictions.

"We also have a master waste bank, a reduction in the use of plastic bags and building a sanitary landfill to support waste reduction actions," explained Anang.

The Earth Day commemoration also received support from the private sector, state-owned enterprises and banks through its CSR funds, including from PT Adaro Indonesia, PT Pertamina EP Asset 5 Tanjung Field, PT Pamapersada Nusantara, PT Buma as well as the Bank BRI Branch Tanjung.
