Kotabaru District Legislative Council (DPRD) supports the acceleration of the addition of runway at Gusti Syamsir Alam Stagen Airport to accelerate the development of Bumi Saijaan (nickname of the district).
Deputy Chairperson of the Kotabaru DPRD Muhammad Arif on Saturday said the rapid development of information and technology today has a positive impact on the region in promoting all its potential.
"At the same time, we must also be prepared with all supporting facilities and infrastructure in lifting the prestige of the region to the wider community," he said.
One of them, he continued, the existence of the airport became very vital, because it became a means to bridge the flow of in and out people and investors who would develop their business in Kotabaru.
Therefore, the PPP politicians said that good road facilities, the availability of good terminals and decent airports, would greatly influence the progress of the Bumi Saijaan, especially in creating an attractive investment climate.
According to Arif, it is grateful that the increase in Stagen airport terminal is now nicer and more comfortable for passengers. It must be balanced with a longer runway so that the type of Boeing aircraft can land.
The Gusti Syamsir Alam Airport runway in Stagen is planned to be extended 350 meters from 1,600 meters to 2,000 meters. The proposal was awaiting a final decision, namely the recommendation of the South Kalimantan governor.
"The latest information is that just waiting for the Governor's recommendation is a development that should be grateful for realizing the discourse," he said.
