The Provincial Government of South Kalimantan is struggling to enter the network and national leading tourist destination programs along with ten other provinces have been set by the central government in 2019.

Head of South Kalimantan Forestry Agency Hanif Faisol Nurofiq here said on Monday he was optimistic the beauty of nature and forests of South Kalimantan that were still virgin could attract tourists from various countries.

His belief was supported by the assessment of a group of tourists from Finland led by the Indonesian Ambassador to Finland and Estonia Wiwiek Setyawati Firman after visiting various natural attractions in South Kalimantan.

According to Hanif, almost all members of the group consisting of media crews, tourism operators and associations from Finland and Estonia, expressed admiration for the natural beauty of South Kalimantan.

"All members of the group stated that the nature of South Kalimantan was very beautiful and attractive. Unfortunately, this potential is too late to realize, so that from now on, we will continue to focus on developing this natural tourism," he said.

One of them is to include South Kalimantan, as a national tourist destination, which is worth visiting by tourists from various countries.

"Unfortunately, South Kalimantan has not yet entered the national tourist destination, so we have to enter next year," he said.

The 10 government-developed tourist destinations are Lake Toba in North Sumatra, Tanjung Kelayang in the Bangka Belitung Islands, Tanjung Lesung in Banten.

Then, the Thousand Islands in Jakarta, Borobudur in Central Java, Bromo Tengger Semeru in East Java, Mandalika in West Nusa Tenggara, Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara, Wakatobi in Southeast Sulawesi, and Morotai in North Maluku.

Another effort, is to improve supporting infrastructure, including increasing the ability of the community to speak English, as well as increasing the potential of the MSME industry around tourist sites.
