PT Adaro Indonesia cooperates with Maburai village-owned enterprises (BUMdes) in Tabalong District in processing used cooking oil (locally known as minyak jelantah) into biodiesel as a mixture of diesel fuel.

PT Adaro Indonesia Deputy QHSE Division Head Didik Triwibowo said since 2018 a biodiesel processing plant had been built at kilometer 69 Hauling Road by utilizing used cooking oil around the company's operations.

"The processing of used cooking oil on the cooperation of Adaro with the Maburai BUMdes is called Maburai Diesel (Marsel) 20," explained Didik, who said that the plant used Adaro's 110-liter engine.

Maburai Village Chief Edi Rahmanto said that BUMdes whose name Berkah Bersama collects used cooking oil from a number of catering  businesses and households.

"We buy the oil for Rp1,000 per liter from caterings and households," Edi explained.

Other supplies are from residents who exchange it for groceries, prepay credit, or they make it as savings and at any time can be taken.

The District Secretary Abdul Muthalib Sangadji expressed his support for the program to use used cooking oil. So far there has been no solution to the problem of used cooking oil waste.

"This program is a solution to reduce waste of used cooking oil and BUMdes in other sub-districts following it," explained Sangadji.
