Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Banjarmasin Mayor H Ibnu Sina said the city government would improve the welfare of janitors, even the increase reached 50 percent this year.


According to him, this increase in welfare is an appreciation of the city government to the performance of the janitors which has brought the city to winning the Adipura environmental award for the fourth time since 2015.

"We increase the allowance of janitors from Rp1 million to Rp1.5 million per month. We have proposed this year, starting from January 2019." he explained here on Wednesday.

He stated, there were more than a thousand janitors in the city of about 98 square kilometers with a population of around 750 thousand. "While the production of garbage per day in our city is more than 500 tons. This needs extra handling," said Ibnu Sina.

He said the handling of waste in the provincial capital is maximized through management at 3R temporary waste disposal (TPS 3R) or integrated solid waste management  (TPST), whose function is to help handle waste with a recycling system.
 
While almost 200 units of garbage banks can manage tons of recycled waste per month.
         
Banjarmasin has a mainstay policy, namely an absolute ban on the market and modern stores from providing plastic bags for consumers, the purpose of which is to reduce plastic waste.
         
"We will continue to improve the way we handle waste and improve the environment, especially to restore the cleanliness of the river, because this city wants to be the most beautiful river city in Indonesia," he concluded
