Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Head of Agriculture Agency Fathurrahman said South Kalimantan had again received a rice field extension program on swamplands from the Ministry of Agriculture with an area of 200 hectares in 2019.

According to him, opening new paddy field (cetak sawah) will be carried out in four districts, namely Banjar, Tanah Laut, South Hulu Sungai (HSS) and North Hulu Sungai (HSU).

After the rice field extension program on World Food Day (HPS) in Jejangkit, South Kalimantan was proven to be able to increase rice production nationally. Then the central government will develop the optimization of paddy planting in the swamps here, also in several other provinces which have considerable swamp land potential.

"The yield on 240 hectares of land in the ex-land of HPS is quite good because it is supported by adequate agricultural technology," he said in Banjarmasin on Thursday.

Furthermore, he added, the program will be escorted by the central government, through the state budget for three years, until farmers are truly able to manage the land.

Previously, the Ministry of Agriculture conducted a trial to optimize agriculture land use in the Jejangkit Village for three harvests.

The Director of Land Extension and Protection of the Ministry of Agriculture Indah Megawati when reviewing the land in Jejangkit Village on Wednesday said from Thursday (13/12) the 101 Antasari Military Command team returned to managing the land.

According to her, farmers have not been confident in managing a 240-hectare land, which had previously been harvested during the HPS. They are still hesitant and worried about crop failure because the conditions of the land are submerged due to rain.
