Jeddah, S Kalimantan  (Antaranews) - The Ministry of Commerce encourages Indonesian and Saudi Arabian businessmen to increase cooperation in the palm oil industry sector, said the Ministry of Trade's Director General of National Export Development Arlinda.

"I want to emphasize that Indonesia is the biggest and best supplier of high-quality palm oil, and a major producer of Certified Sustainable Palm Oil (CSPO)," Arlinda said in Jeddah on Thursday.

Arlinda was speaking at the Indonesia-Saudi Arabia Business Forum which was attended by hundreds of businessmen from both countries as a series of 'Made in Indonesia Expo 2018' events in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

He explained, Indonesia supplies 6.58 million tons or more than half of CSPO in the global market.

Arlinda assured that the palm oil industry in Indonesia is a sustainable, environmentally friendly and of high quality, as required in the Roundtable Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) scheme

In Indonesia, palm oil plays an important role in providing jobs and overcoming poverty in rural areas.

This, continued Arlinda, is a source of direct and indirect income of around 16.5 million people in Indonesia so that small ripples along the palm oil supply chain will have a major impact on Indonesia.

"I believe palm oil also supports various consumer industries in Saudi Arabia, ranging from personal care, cosmetics, household goods, to food and beverages," he said.

This, added Arlinda, provides employment opportunities for Saudi Arabia, but is cost-effective when comparing palm oil with other vegetable oils.
