Banjarbaru, S Kalimantan (Antaranews) - A total of ten female students of the state junior high school SMPN 1 Gambut, Banjar District, were suspected of poisoning after inhaling carbon monoxide (CO2) gas so they had to be rushed to a hospital to get medical help.
Director of the Martapura District Hospital Ratu Zalecha Topik Norman Hidayat here Saturday said the hospital received 10 poisoned junior high school students around 6:30 a.m.
"Medical attendants immediately took medical action to help all the victims and their condition has begun to improve, even though there are those who have to be hospitalized and continue to be monitored," he said.
Previously they underwent observation at the ED. From observations, it was known that one person was in an emergency and nine were in clinical improvement with a stable and improved condition.
"One person has to undergo intensive treatment because her condition is serious, while the other nine are still under surveillance seen from the condition after being treated," he said.
"All patients are still under handling by the pulmonary specialist Dr. Hendra Agus Setiawan and oxygenization is carried out to increase oxygen pressure to release carbon monoxide," he explained.
The poisoning incident happened to 10 female students while participating in a camp at the Lemdika Campsite in Sungai Ulin Banjarbaru after the generator engine was turned on in the tent.
