Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (Antara) - Head of the Region XI Kalimantan Higher Education Service (LL-Dikti) Prof. Idiannor Mahyudin said the polytechnic must be able to open study programs that are in line with current industry needs.
According to him, the government through Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti) has made fundamental changes to vocational education through the vocational higher education revitalization program which in this case is a polytechnic.
"The relevance of education in polytechnics must be in accordance with the needs of industrial users," he said in Banjarmasin on Wednesday.
Polytechnic graduates are expected to become ready-to-use experts in the industrial world, which continues to grow rapidly. So the polytechnic campus must be serious in managing its institutions as well as providing supporting facilities.
He exemplified the mechanical engineering study program, if the campus had a limited laboratory, immediately cooperated with machine workshops, parts manufacturing or repair workshops, as student internships.
In addition to what is desired by the government and industry, he said, polytechnics must be oriented towards technology and the development of science, machinery and mathematics.
"Polytechnic students are expected to produce innovative tools that are appropriate for society and industrial needs," he said.
At present, he added, Indonesia as a developing country is in desperate need of innovation in all fields.
