Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) hosted the 5th International Conference on Sustainable Built Environment (ICSBE) with the theme of Management of Changes for Livable Environment.


Taking place at the Golden Tulip Galaxy Hotel Banjarmasin, the event which is a collaboration between ULM and the Indonesian Islamic University (UII) Yogyakarta involving several universities and research institutions from abroad and attended by delegates from 8 countries.

"This international conference is the fifth after the first was held in May 2010 in Yogyakarta with the theme of Enhancing Disaster Prevention and Mitigation," said Deputy Chancellor of ULM for Planning, Cooperation and Public Relations Prof. Dr. Ir. H Yudi Firmanul Arifin.

ICSBE is intended as a forum to exchange ideas, knowledge, and dissemination of information about studies and research on the design of built environments in various parts of the world.

The conference also aims to improve relations between regions and countries in the academic, professional, and policy-making fields regarding the management of built-in environmental designs.

He said the output obtained from this forum was how to produce a comfortable environment for life, or commonly called a livable environment.

"Environmental arrangements such as in the city of Banjarmasin really need input from various circles so that environmental management in development becomes sustainable," said Yudi who was representing the Rector of ULM Prof. Sutarto Hadi.

The event was attended by the Mayor of Banjarmasin Ibnu Sina who was also the speaker. Then the UII Vice Rector for Networking and Entrepreneurship Ir Wiryono Raharjo, Dean of the ULM Faculty of Engineering, as well as speakers and participants from 8 countries namely America, Japan, Taiwan, Germany, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and Iraq.
