Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Syamsudin Noor Airport area in the Subdistrict of Landasan Ulin, Banjarbaru, is shrouded in smoke every day in recent weeks.

Even so, these conditions have not yet disrupted flight schedules, both aircraft take off and landing.

According to Airport Operation & Services Department Head Ruly Artha, the haze so far has no impact on flights, because the minimum visibility for pilots is still relatively safe.

"Visibility for taking off is at least 400 meters and landing is 600 meters," Ruly said on Friday.

The flight movements at Syamsudin Noor Airport in a normal day are an average of 90 aircrafts, both take off and landing.

Coordination, said Ruly, continues to be carried out with relevant parties addressing the current natural conditions which could potentially endanger flight safety.

The haze in the airport area is known to be due to the impact of land fires in a number of regions. Moreover, many hotspots appear on Jalan Tegal Arum and Guntung Damar, Syamsudin Noor Urban Village, which is very close to the airport.

Peatlands and vacant land here are often burned, even though they have been fitted with bore wells by the South Kalimantan Peat Restoration Agency (BRG). Even the Forest and Land Fire (karhutla) Management Post is established there by the command of Banjarbaru Police.

Banjarbaru Police Chief AKBP Kelana Jaya ensured officers at the post are always on standby 24 hours and intensely patrol.
