Banjarbaru, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Banjarbaru Mayor Nadjmi Adhani strongly supports the development of archery sports because it is useful to build a strong and competitive society's character.
"We are very supportive because archery is one of the sports that has great benefits in building the individual character of the community," he said in Banjarbaru City on Saturday.
He was speaking when opening 2018 Banjarbaru Archery Competition which was held at Gawi Sabarataan Hajj Idak Mini Stadium, Jalan RO Ulin, South Loktabat Urban Village, Banjarbaru.
According to him, archery sports can develop sportsmanship, discipline, and compliance with rules that are able to build a strong and competitive character in various fields.
"Winning or losing is not the main goal, but how to hone the ability to build character and mentality so that they always have the spirit of championing in every aspect of life," he said.
Chairman of the Banjarbaru Perpani Branch Hidayaturahman said archery is the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad peace and prayer be upon him. It uses equipment such as bows, arrows, and targets.
"Archery is the sunnah. It can train emotionally and physically each individual through a concentration of one arrow aimed at targets," he said.
Archery is very focused on the balance of the body and trains individuals to calm and stabilize their emotions so that the arrow is right about the expected target.
"Individuals are not calm, careless, angry, impatient or mentally unwell will not be good archers. Likewise in life, if they are not patient then they are not calm," said Head of the Banjarbaru Tourism, Youth and Sports Office.
The Chairperson of the Banjarbaru Archery Competition Committee Hardiono said that the activities had been carried out for three times and is expected to become a routine agenda every year supported by various parties.
"Participants are not only the archery club from South Kalimantan but also outside, such as from Kuala Pembuang, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, there were even participants who came from Batam," he said.
