Pelaihari, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Green Movement Care for Proboscis (Gerakan Hijau Peduli Bekantan) in Tanah Laut, South Kalimantan, detected the presence of bekantan habitat in Panjaratan village, Tanah Laut, reaching 500.


"The amount is still in the estimation because one colony of proboscis monkeys in Panjaratan Village is estimated to reach 30. We find more than five colonies," said Secretary of the Gerakan Hijau Peduli Bekantan (Gahipta) Kumaini in Pelaihari, Friday.

According to him, the proboscis monkey population in Panjaratan Village is quite a lot more than in other regions in South Kalimantan.

Seeing this fact, he said, of course, the effort to preserve the proboscis monkeys is very necessary because the forests around the Panjaratan Village have been eroded by oil palm plantations.

If reforestation is not carried out as soon as possible, he explained, the proboscis monkey will difficult to find food and where they take refuge.

In fact, according to him, with the occurrence of land fires around the bekantan habitat is very concerned impacted on the health of these endangered and protected species.

He asked the government and palm oil companies around the bekantan habitat to immediately improve the environment in the form of greening and other efforts.

Separately, the Director of the NGO Merah Putih Tanah Laut Hardiansyah said the existence of Panjaratan's bekantan could be a tourist attraction for Tanah Laut because the location is not far from Pelaihari, the district capital.

"Let us together maintain bekantan habitat so that its existence can be sustainable and become a tourist attraction of Tanah Laut," he said.
