Banjarmasin, (AntaranewsKalsel) - Faculty of Fisheries and Marine University of Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) launched center for freshwater fisheries studies or Inland Fisheries Studies Center which is claimed to be the first in Indonesia.

Chairman of the Indonesian Fisheries and Marine Universities Leadership Forum (FP2TPKI) Dr Luky Adrianto appreciated it and stated will keep pushing the progress of the study center. He hopes other universities also make a similar breakthrough by focusing on the study of freshwater.

"This is the first truly special Study Center built under the framework of universities as an institution that focuses on freshwater research," he said in Banjarbaru on Friday.

The Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB) is here to attend the 5th Meeting of Indonesian Fishery and Marine University Leadership Forum held at Q Grand Dafam Syariah Hotel Banjarbaru. Faculty of Fisheries and Marine ULM acted as the host.

Luky revealed, so far the development of marine related science has a lot. But for fresh water waters is still very minimal. In fact, according to him, the area of sea and freshwater waters in Indonesia is almost the same. So the research on it should continue to be encouraged.
