Martapura, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The desire of the Sungai Batang farmers in Martapura Barat Subdistrict, Banjar, South Kalimantan, to have water canals to irrigate their rice fields just like a dream comes true.


This was after South Kalimantan Governor H Sahbirin Noor went straight to their agriculture to absorb their aspirations, where he also sow the seeds of Siamese rice in the second week of Ramadan or exactly Saturday, May 26, 2018.

The farmers expressing their wish that Uncle Birin (the governor's nickname) helped them building the canal. The reason, since the agricultural land was opened earlier, the need for water depends on weather and nature.

"Alhamduilllah since the arrival of Uncle Birin the result we have seen now, the water channel has been realized with the construction of the canal on the right and left of the rice fields," said Aman Asri, a farmer, when met at paddy fields, Wednesday (20/6) afternoon.

Aman Asri said that he and other farmers were very impressed with Uncle Birin's quick response to the people. Communities were invited to work together to do soil dredging to create canals.

He is optimistic, people's passion for cultivating will rise again as the rice crops thrive here.

The head of Sungai Batang Village Muhammad Aspi expressed his gratitude for Uncle Birin's help in encouraging people to use the idle land for agriculture.

Along with the existence of the canal, he said, rice seed looks very thriving.
