Banjarbaru, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The management of PT PLN Region South and Central Kalimantan prepares 1,500 operators to anticipate the occurrence of blackouts before and after Idul Fitri 1439 Hijriah.

"Thousands of operators are scattered either in South or Central Kalimantan and they are ready to cope with power outage," said General Manager of PT PLN Region South and Central Kalimantan Sudirman in Banjarbaru, Friday.

He said the PLN operators or technicians work alternately to ensure that electricity supply is safe and smooth to all PLN customers in the two neighboring provinces.

Each operator is given guidance and performs the duties according to standard operational procedures (SOPs) so that their work does not pose a major adverse risk.

He explained that the electricity system of PLN South and Central Kalimantan has a surplus, because it has been interconnected to the electrical system in the East Kalimantan region.

The interconnection of electricity network with East Kalimantan was realized since early 2018 so that the electrical system changed its name to Kalimantan System from previously Barito System.

"Kalimantan's electricity system connected to East Kalimantan makes its power capacity reaches 1,540 Mega Watt thus it can serve three provinces," he said.

The interconnected system causes South Kalimantan electricity to have a surplus reaches 100 Mega Watt, thus it considered safe from interference, such as blackout.

"The surplus of electric power is quite large (1,000 MW) so if there is interference can be overcome because the electricity reserves are available and able to anticipate power outage," he said.

Related to the power outage in the beginning of Ramadhan, he said it was caused by disruption to the repeater due to non technical factors but was soon overcome.
