Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Water and Air Police Unit (Satpolairud) of Banjarmasin City Police have busted herds of coal thieves in the waters of the Barito River.


"The perpetrators have prepared 400 sacks to steal coal on the barge," said Head of Satpolairud Comr (Kompol) Windy Syafutra, Monday.

Currently, he said, seven perpetrators have been named as suspects. While the other one is an underage, and not detained.

"Evidences seized are one kelotok (traditional motorboat), two shovels, and 141 Sacks of coal, the remaining are empty sacks have not been filled because caught by officers on Sunday (20/5) night," said Windy.

The coal thieves were caught when members of Satpolairud led by Head of Law Enforcement Ipda Selamat Riyadi conducted patrols across the waters of Barito River in Kuin Kecil, South Banjarmasin. They saw many lights on the TB Ercalm barge that was pulled by BG Elsye.

"After being approached and examined it was found eight perpetrators of coal theft are filling coal into sacks using shovels and loaded into a kelotok who had been waiting in the stern barge," said Windy.
