Banjarbaru, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The number of open unemployed in South Kalimantan in February 2018 increased by 8,553 people or 3.86 percent compared to unemployment a year ago in February 2017.


"The number of unemployed increased from 75,925 people in February 2017 to 84,478 in February 2018," Head of South Kalimantan Central Statistics Agency Diah Utami said in Banjarbaru, Tuesday.

She said the number of labor force in the province in February 2018 reached 2,190,811 people increased 1.78 percent compared to February 2017 of 2,152,412 people.

The number of working population is 2,106,333 people with the addition of 29,846 people or up 1.44 percent compared to February 2017.

"The number of working population and the number of unemployed affect the Labor Force Participation Rate (LFPR) whose condition is the same in 2017 and 2018 that is 73.41 percent," she said.

According to her, the number of unfulled workers increased by 61,889 from 764,389 in February 2017 to 826,278 people in February 2018.

"The number of underemployees rose by 18,179 from 174,264 to 826,278 and part-time workers rose by 43,710 from 590,125 to 633,835," she said.

She said that the main occupation that mostly observed workers is the agriculture sector which is 35.19 percent of the total working population.

Despite being the dominant sector, employment of agricultural sector declined from February 2017 by 35.83 percent to 35.19 percent in February 2018.

"The decline in agricultural labor absorption is likely due to the rising unemployment rate from 3.53 percent to 3.86 percent," she said.

The result of BPS identification on the type of work is known as 39.20 percent work in the formal sector and 60.80 percent in the informal sector.
