Batulicin, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - TNI soldiers of the 1022 Tanah Bumbu District Military Command (Kodim) change a swampland in Batulicin Subdistrict into a three-kilometer public road.

The Tanah Bumbu District Military Commander Lieutenant Colonel Czi Andy Setyawan in Batulicin on Friday said converting the swampy land into roads is part of the 101st Integrated Village Development (TMMD) program in 2018.

"Many considerations have been made between the TNI and Tanah Bumbu Government to build the road," he said.

He said the swamp that is currently built is an isolated area. No access road to the location. It is actually potential to be productive lands, such as agriculture and plantation, but landowners are reluctant to work on it because there is no access.

Through the TMMD program, the government gives confidence to the TNI to build the marshland into a road that can connect two subdistricts.

The local government provided the TNI with a budget of Rp1.5 trillion, while the TNI earned an additional Rp300 million from the Army Headquarters (Mabesad) to succeed the TMMD program in the area.

Road construction in the swamp area is considered to benefit the community because since the road is built, the land selling value here begins to rise. While the area used to be an idle land now becomes a productive land for agriculture.
