Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Government of South Kalimantan will fix venue of various sports for the preparation to host the 21st National Sports Week (PON) in 2024.
Governor Sahbirin Noor in Banjarmasin on Monday said based on verification results from the central team, South Kalimantan was assessed eligible as a candidate host PON XXI.
"I am very grateful South Kalimantan finally declared eligible to become a candidate host for 2024 PON," he said.
In the future, added the governor, the government will follow up the team suggestion to fix the venue and other requirements to host PON 2024.
Previously, Chairman of 2024 PON Verification Team Major General (Ret.) Suwarno said based on several venues that have been visited starting March 11, 2018, South Kalimantan is eligible to become a potential host.
According to him, preparation of facilities and infrastructure of South Kalimantan has met the minimum requirement of 30 percent in quantity.
Suwarno revealed, among the venues he visited was Balipat Circuit in Binuang which became the plus value of South Kalimantan,
because it has exceeded the standard for the implementation of PON.
On the other hand, he added, South Kalimantan still has homework to clean up.
"Such as swimming pool facility in South Hulu Sungai is still not 100 percent completed, I am sure within the next year the venue will be finished," he said.
Previously, the South Kalimantan branch of National Sports Committee (KONI) began visited other Province KONI in Indonesia to strengthen the support to host PON in 2024.
