Amuntai, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The North Hulu Sungai (HSU) Health Agency has succeeded in suppressing the number of malnourished children for the last ten years from 19 cases with 7 deaths in 2008 to 5 cases without death in 2017. 
Acting Head of Health Agency Agus Fidliansyah in Amuntai on Monday said Nutrition Recovery Center (PPG) or Theuprapatic Feeding Center (TFC) has been established since 2010 at Alabio Community Health Center (Puskesmas) in Sungai Pandan Sub-district.
"Recovery of malnourished children under five was done intensively through the center, so nutritional status improves quickly," said Agus.
PPG was the assistance of DHS-2 of South Kalimantan Province, then in the next year financing was done through HSU local budget.
Promotion of malnutrition status prevention is also done through counseling of nutrient conscious family (Kadarzi) in 60 villages each year.
"Through Kadarzi activities we do toddlers weighing every month, exclusive breastfeeding, providing nutritious food, supplements, and more," he told.
Promotion and counseling of Exclusive Breast Milk (ASI) are done in every puskesmas also provided by ASI counselor since 2011.
The number of counselors according to data 2015 as many as 82 people consisting of 3 doctors, 24 nutrition workers, and 55 midwives.
In 2016, Local Regulation No. 1/2016 was issued on exclusive breast milk for improvement of giving and protection of baby.
"Supplementary foods in the form of biscuits are always given so toddlers do not experience malnutrition," he concluded.
According to him, cases of malnourished toddlers who died usually accompanied by chronic diseases such as anemia, recurrent diarrhea, abdominal tumors, and pneumonia.
Cases of malnutrition found acutely caused by families who do not regularly monitoring the growth of toddlers to integrated health service post (posyandu).
