Kotabaru, S Kalimantan 4/1 (AntaranewsKalsel) - Kotabaru District Government, South Kalimantan, is expanding 117 hectares of maize to support food security program.

Kotabaru Regent H Sayed Jafar while leading the initial planting of corn in Sekoyang, Semisir Village, Central Pulau Laut Subdistrict, on Thursday said the expansion of corn plant is a cooperation between District Military Command (Kodim) 1004 Kotabaru and Saijaan Mandiri Farmers Group and other related parties.

"Corn is a food crop commodity that has a strategic role in national development and becomes the main raw material for animal feed for national meat production continuation," he said.

According to the regent, demand for maize continues to increase, proportional to population growth, as a result of increased food demand, consumption of animal protein and energy.

"Therefore, the government continues to make efforts to realize self-sufficiency of corn through increased corn production in a sustainable manner," added the regent.

The success of a region's government lies not only in the success of the administration, but more importantly the success of the people that lies in the welfare of the society of the necessities of life at all times.

The Kotabaru regency government has determined to meet the availability of food independently. And on this occasion, they jointly implement the planting of maize in Sekoyang, Semisir Village.

"I support the development of agriculture in this Semisir Village because it is also one of the efforts to support the central government in improving food self-sufficiency," said the regent.
