Kotabaru, S Kalimantan, Oct 19 (AntaranewsKalsel) - Researchers from Biodiversity Indonesia, University of Lambung Mangkurat`s (ULM`s) study and conservation center of Indonesian biodiversity, have discovered a reptilian and two amphibian species in South Kalimantan`s Meratus Mountains towering 70-170 meters above sea level.

The researchers were part of a project called Meratus Herpetofauna Project List in which they discovered the new species, Zainudin Kami, a young researcher at ULM and coordinator of the researcher team, said here, Thursday.

He, however, could not confirm what species of Cyrtodactylus they were, particularly whether the animals discovered were a new species or had been studied previously.

South Kalimantan is the smallest province on Kalimantan Island but has rich flora and fauna. New species of fauna are often discovered in South Kalimantan.
