Martapura, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - South Kalimantan Governor H Sahbirin Noor has released 110,000 local fish seeds in the Martapura River for the preservation of various local fish species and maintains the river ecosystem in the province.


"We want to keep the local fish of South Kalimantan in the waters while maintaining the river ecosystem," he said on the banks of the Martapura River in Pekauman Village, Banjar District, on Tuesday.

The restocking of hundreds of thousands of local fish seeds was conducted together with the Head of Fish Quarantine Agency for Quality Control and Fishery Products Safety (KKP) Rina.

Also followed by Banjar Regent and members of Forkopimda (regional leader communication forums) Banjar which together released the fish seed from the plastic bags to the river.

According to the governor, the release of local fish consisting of 40 thousand Papuyu (climbing perch), 50 thousand jelawat, baung fish 10 thousand and catfish 10 thousand, is expected to increase the number of fish in the river.

"In the past, if fishing in the Martapura River not up to 1 hour we already got fish, but now until all day got no fish, so there is a disturbance of river ecosystem," he said.

Hopefully, restocking hundreds of thousands of local fish seeds are able to increase the number of fish and is expected within six months or a year the fish is large.

"We also hope that fishing in this Martapura River by fishing, not electrocuted or other ways that can damage the river ecosystem," he said.

Head of BKIPM-KHP Rina said, the release of local fish in the flow of Martapura River supports the program implemented by the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP).
