The South Kalimantan Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine conducted food safety inspection on 1.1 tons fresh peeled pink shrimp worth Rp38.9 million for shipment to several regions in East Java.

Head of the Quarantine Erwin AM Dabukke here on Tuesday said the examination was a supervision to ensure that the fisheries commodities are safe, healthy, and fit for consumption, as well as to prevent entry and spread of quarantine fish pests and diseases (HPIK), and to maintain the quality of traded fishery products.

“Officers carry out overall examination from type  and quantity, physical of commodities, to taking sample if necessary,” he said.

He said fresh peeled pink shrimp is a leading commodity widely used as food ingredient, including for household consumption, restaurants, hotels, catering services, and small and medium culinary businesses.

It also used for processed products, such as frozen shrimp, shrimp nuggets, shrimp meatballs, and various ready-to-eat foods.

Through this activity, the South Kalimantan Quarantine consistently seeks to enhance services to businesses, while prioritizing the precautionary principles.

“The synergy between quarantine officers and business actors is expected to create commodity traffic that complies with legal requirements,” said Erwin.
