Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan 5/9 (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted inflation in South Kalimantan, which is a combination of the city of Banjarmasin and Tanjung in August 2017 stood at 0.01 percent.


Head of BPS here Diah Utami in Banjarbaru on Tuesday said inflation in Banjarmasin was 0.03 percent while Tanjung experienced deflation of 0.29 percent.

"The cumulative inflation rate in Banjarmasin in August 2017 to December 2016 is 3.29 percent, while the cumulative inflation rate at Tanjung is 1.77 percent," she said.

She mentioned commodities that experienced price increase with the highest inflation share in Banjarmasin included household fuel, chicken meat, watermelon, wet shrimp, and biscuits.

Meanwhile, commodities experienced a decrease in price with the highest share of deflation among others onion, snakehead fish, air transport, timber bar and long-jawed mackerel.

In Banjarmasin, from seven expenditure groups, five experienced an increase in the price index, namely food and beverage by 0.20 percent, housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel 0.15 percent, clothing 0.19 percent, education, recreation and sports 0.39 percent.

The transport, communication and financial services group was 0.26 percent, and one group experienced a 0.22 percent decrease in the food index and the health group did not change.

Meanwhile, in Tanjung, the commodity that experienced a decrease in the price index with the highest deflation among others red onion, sweet corn, tomatoes, cayenne pepper, and garlic.

"Commodities that experienced a rise in the highest inflation share include chicken meat, rice, oranges, long beans and sand," she said.

BPS also noted, the consumer price index in 82 cities. It is recorded 35 cities experienced inflation and 47 deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Lhokseumawe at 1.09 percent.
