The Kotabaru Women Empowerment, Child Protection, Population Control and Family Planning Office (DP3AP2KB) graduated 107 seniors from 2025 Senior School, with Standard 1 (S1) and Standard 2 (S2) level from several sub-districts, both offline and online.

Head of the office Sri Sulistyani said Senior School in Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, lasted six months and was attended by participants from four sub-districts and one urban village.

"This is part of the Ministry for Population and Family Development/the National Population and Family Planning Agency's (BKKBN) strategic program by developing "Senior School" with the aims to create healthy, independent, active, productive, and dignified seniors," she said here.

Through this school, participants are provided with structured and continuous learning to maintain physical and mental health, actively socialize, and productive in old age.

Head of the South Kalimantan BKKBN Farah Adiba remarked that education knows no age and Senior School is an important learning space for building resilient seniors across seven dimensions: spiritual, physical, emotional, intelectual, social, vocational, and environmental.

“Today 107 seniors are graduated consisting of 87 Standard 1 graduates and 20 Standard 2 graduates. This proves that the spirit of learning must be maintained throughout life,” she said.

The Kotabaru Government Expert Staff Zaenal Arifin expressed his appreciation to all parties contributed to the implementation of Senior School. He stated that this program is a visionary step in addressing changes in population structure, where the number of elderly people continues to increase.

“The Senior School is not just a learning space, but an empowerment platform to develop healthy, independent and productive elderly people. Elderly people are not a burden, but rather a valuable asset with experience and wisdom that can enspire younger generation,” he said.

The Kotabaru District Government is committed to supporting the continuation and expansion of Senior School through crsoss-sector collaboration to improve the quality of life for senior citizens.
