Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan - Banjarbaru Resort Police patrols its waters territory to prevent illegal fishing that damages the ecosystem.

"Efforts to create security and order not only on land but also in the waters, especially the sector police whose part of its territorial waters, such as Aluh-Aluh," said Banjarbaru Police Chief AKBP Kelana Jaya here, Tuesday.

He said he had instructed Aluh-Aluh Police Chief AKP Suroto to increase patrols in the waters, so as to create a sense of security and prevent illegal fishing.

Intensified patrols are increased, he said, following the many reports from the public, especially from fishermen, about the rampant illegal fishing.

"Illegal fishing is unlawful, so we continue to instruct personnel to further improve patrols to prevent such violations," the police chief said.

Aluh-Aluh police chief AKP Suroto said the patrol was done by using a speedboat along the Barito River in Aluh-Aluh Sub-district.

According to him, patrols are routinely carried out and so far no events or community activities have been captured using electric current.

"But we still urge people not to catch fish by electric current, using explosives and chemicals, because they can damage the existing ecosystems in the waters," he said.

Police also asks the public to play an active role and not afraid to report if there are unscrupulous people doing fishing against the law.
