The District Government of Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, is developing area-based shrimp cultivation cluster to support food security program in Sungai Limau Village, Pulau Laut Timur Sub-district.
Kotabaru Regent Muhammad Rusli here on Monday (July 6, 2025) said the development of vaname shrimp cultivation is one of the efforts to implement food security programs in fishieries sector.
"It is to support sustainable food security in fisheries sector in Pulau Laut Timur Sub-district," he said.
He informed that this program in fully supported by Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) through the Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) of Jepara Brakish Water Aquaculture Center as technical assistance.

His government also proposed cooperation to PT PLN to provide electricity network to the pond, so that the shrimp farming can run smoothly.
The available land of about 10 hectares will be used to build a shrimp cultivation area complete with supporting facilites.
He hopes that the pilot project of technology-based intensive shrimp cultivation in Sungai Limau Village will increase shrimp production by around 10 to 15 tons per hectare.
The recent price of vaname shrimp is around Rp60,000-Rp75,000 per kg for a size of 50-60 shrimps/kg.
The Regent said the intensive shrimp development aims to increase coastal land productivity, providing training in modern technology shrimp farming, improving the economy and welfare of rural/coastal communities.
The shrimp cultivation pilot cluster is said to have advantages that are more cost-efficient and easy to maintain, optimal in limited land, easy to monitor and control.
The Regent hopes the development of shrimp cluster area will have an impact on the economy of people in Kotabaru.
