Banjarbaru, (Antaranews South Kalimantan) - An official of Bank Indonesia (BI) reminded that money exchange which is quite rampant in the city of Banjarmasin potentially inserted with banknotes resemble real money so that people are asked to be careful.


Deputy Head of BI Representative of South Kalimantan M Irwan in Banjarbaru on Friday said the potential for mixing of real monye with counterfeit can occur due to the large number of banknotes.

"The potential of genuine banknotes inserted with banknotes resembling real money is quite large, so people who want to exchange their money must be careful not to be harmed," he said.

He said BI could not take action against the exchange of banknotes that are rampant on the roadside of Jalan Lambung Mangkurat Banjarmasin not far from the office of BI South Kalimantan.

BI can not take action, because it does not meet the element of criminal acts such as counterfeiting money, so do law enforcement officers.

"However, we are grateful that Mayor of Banjarmasin Ibnu Sina has taken decision to curb money exchange that is quite rampant on the roadside of the protocol in the capital of South Kalimantan province," he said.

Although the curbing of money exchange activities is to discipline not because of the potential of counterfeit money, but the disruption of public order.

"We are also very appreciative of the mayor's remarks that the practice of money exchange is usury (riba) and the law is haram, so people are expected to avoid it," he said.

He urges people to exchange money in BI as well as in some provided outlet, both in banking and mobile cash that serve money exchange.

"Take advantage of official money exchange or go to a mobile cash, so that exchange money ascertain it originality," he said.
