Amuntai, South Kalimantan, 15/6 (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Regent of North Hulu Sungai (HSU), South Kalimantan, Abdul Wahid said he felt very ashamed if there is still a resident who is being shackled on the grounds of mental retardation.


According to the regent in Amuntai on Thursday, the physical restraint of people with mental disorders deeply hurt the sense of humanity and evidence of lack of government service to the community.

In order HSU free from shackle practice, Wahid asked villages heads to monitor the condition of their citizens, especially those who suffered mental disorders to be immediately treated to Pambalah Batung Amuntai Hospital.

"Shackling people who have mental disorders violates human rights, should be immediately taken to the Pambalah Batung District Hospital because it already has a psychiatrist," he said.

According to Wahid, he can understand, if the family feel embarrassed to bring him for treatment, but there is no other way than to take for treatment, especially the cost can be borne through BPJS or Amuntai Health Card.

"Not only family, local government also feel ashamed if there is still citizen who is being shackled, because it all concerns the sense of humanity and the form of government services to the community," he said.

Regent's statement was responding to the death from a fire that occurred some time ago in the village of Ujung Murung.

The regent handed over social assistance from in the form of cash, basic food, and kitchen utensils to each of the affected families and hoped the victims to be patience and tawakal in facing the ordeal.

Ujung Murung Village Head Marlani reported as many as four houses burned 100 percent and one house suffered 80 percent damage, consequently as many as five families or 10 people lost their homes, and one victim dead.
