The City Government of Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, is increasing vigilance agaist the spread of COVID-19, even though no cases have been found here.

"We remind the public to be vigilant, to re-apply health protocol, because COVID-19 re-emerges," said Head of Banjarmasin Health Office Tabiun Huda here on Tuesday.

He said there has been indications the disease have entered the country, although not as severe as before, but still dangerous for safety.

"So, we urge people to again wear mask in the public places," he explained.

Tabiun asked residents not to panic, becauase news of COVID-19 re-emerging, but to stay alert, continue to maintain health and  eat food that rich in vitamins.

He is optimistic that the immunity of the city residents is high considering around 90 percent had been vaccinated.

"Even if there are cases, we are ready to face them," he pointed out.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health announced that it has prepared health facilities to anticipate a potential increase in COVID-19 cases following the report of seven new cases in the 22nd week of 2025.

Head of the Ministry's Public Communication and Information Bureau, Aji Muhawarman as quoted from Antaranews.com, in Jakarta on Wednesday (June 4, 2026) stated that the highest positivity rate in 2025 was recorded during the 19th week of 2025, reaching 3.62 percent.

"We have prepared health service facilities in accordance with the circular that has been distributed," he remarked.

He explained that the circular was sent to health facilities and stakeholders, urging them to monitor the situation closely and stay updated on global COVID-19 developments through official government and WHO websites.

Facilities are also urged to remain vigilant by monitoring and verifying trends in influenza-like illness (ILI), severe acute respiratory infections (SARI), pneumonia, and COVID-19 cases through the Early Alertness and Response System (SKDR).
