Pelaihari, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - To support agricultural products in Tanah Laut District, South Kalimantan, the local government has distributed 1,200 handtractors to farmer groups.


"Until 2017, the number of handtractors we distributed to farmer groups is 1,200," said Tanah Laut Regent Bambang Alamsyah in Pelaihari, Thursday (1/6).
     
According to him, not only handtractors has been given to the farmer groups. The district government has also distributed equipment and other agricultural machinery, such as water pumps and rice threshing machines.
     
In an effort to increase rice, corn and other crop production, Tanah Laut plans to build artificial lake (embung) in Mekar Sari village, Kintap sub-district, in 2018.

Regent said, the construction of farm roads is also a concern for the transport of agricultural products to be faster and cheaper.
     
With the help of agricultural equipment and machinery, as well as infrastructure improvements, he explained, the rice harvest, which is usually once a year, increased to twice.
     
It also influenced productivity, he said, from five tons per hectare increased to eight till 10 tons per hectare.
     
The increase of agricultural production in the area, certainly become a positive impact on improving the welfare of farmers.
     
He asked the farmer groups to keep handtractor and agricultural tools and machinery which have been handed over to each farmer group, so that it can provide positive benefits for increasing agricultural production.
