Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The open unemployment rate in South Kalimantan in February 2017 was 3.53 percent or decreased by 0.10 percent compared to February 2016.


"The open unemployment rate in February 2017 decreased compared to February 2016 by 3.63 percent," said Head of South Kalimantan Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Diah Utami in Banjarbaru, Friday.

She said the employment in South Kalimantan early in the first semester of 2017 increased. The total labor force of 2.15 million consists of 2.08 million workers and 76,000 unemployed people.

During the one year period of February 2016-February 2017 there was an increase of labor force as many as 100,180 people or an increase of 4.88 percent.

"The composition of the increase in labor force consists of an increase in the number of workers 98,650 people or 4.99 percent and an increase in the number of unemployed as many as 1,530 people or 2.06 percent," she said.

The main employment occupation of the most absorbing labor is in the agricultural sector that is 35.83 percent of the total population who work.

The labor conditions of the agricultural sector decreased by 1.65 percent over the previous year. Other sectors that experienced a decline is construction by 2.51 percent and trade down 1.70 percent.

"Other sectors such as mining and industrial sector as well as the public service sector experienced an increase in employment in February 2017," he said.

The result of identification on the type of work is known as 36.74 percent work in the formal sector, while informal sector workers reached 63.26 percent.

The main employment status of 2.08 million people working in February 2017 was at most 34.11 percent of workers, self-employed 22.40 percent and employed by 18.04 percent workers.

"During the year, the biggest increase occurred in the population working with self-employment status of 1.86 percent and free workers status which rose 0.40 percent," she said.
