The District Government of South Barito (Barito Selatan or Barsel), Central Kalimantan, has forged collaboration with PT Adaro Indonesia to accelerate stunting alleviation to realize healthy generation.

Assistant for Government and People's Welfare of the South Barito Administation, Yoga Prasetyanto Utomo, who was represented by General Administrative Assistant Mirwansyah expressed his appreciation for Adaro's involvement in efforts to reduce stunting in the area.

"Stunting is not only about health, it determines the quality of young generation in the future. Collaboration between the government and private is the key to accelerate stunting handling," said Mirwansyah, Sunday.

The cross-stakeholders meeting was expected to produce innovative strategies that are not only effective in alleviating stunting rate but increase public awareness about the importance of fulfilling nutrition for early age.

The meeting with the theme “Collaboration to create healthy and free stunting generation” showed a strong commitment of parties in reducing stunting rate through intervention in villages around Adaro's operational areas.

The activities involved program presentation, joint dicussion, and signing of cooperation.

The main focus of the program is intervention for 125 toddlers and 16 pregnant mothers in two sub-district identified as being risk of stunting baesed on the inspection results by the Mangkatip Puskesmas (community health center), Dusun Hilir sub-district, and Rantau Kudjang Puskesmas, Jenamas Sub-district, in November 2024.

PT Adaro Indonesia CSR Section Head Aan Nurhadi said the program is the continuation of the 2024 initiative which was delayed due to a change of partner. 

Adaro remains committed in supporting percepatan penurunan stunting reduction acceleration, especially in Jenamas and Dusun Hilir.

"We declare on village Kami in Balangan District (South Kalimantan) as Zero Stunting after three years of no stunting cases," Aan stated.

This proves that the zero stunting target is not impossible thing, as long as there is a strong collaboration.

According to him, role of parents is very important in preventing stunting, so this program also emphasizes nutritional education for them.

"We want to make sure that the future generation grow up healthy," he added.

Aan underscored that this program aims to support the national target to reduce the prevalence of stunting to 18.8 percent by 2025.

Adaro is also committed to create Zero New Stunting in villages around ring 1 of its operation and optimizing the growth and development of children with abnormal nutritional status aged 24–60 months.
